Gaslighting

Description

Friend, gaslighting is the art of stealing a person’s trust in their own eyes. The manipulator denies what happened, rewrites words already spoken, and asks you to distrust your memory before you distrust their conduct.

Why This Works

It works when one voice dominates the frame and repeats itself with confidence. Many people would rather doubt themselves than endure conflict, so they surrender certainty for temporary peace.

Example 1

You show a message thread; the other replies, “You always misread things.” Soon the document in your hand is treated as weaker than their tone.

Example 2

A manager approves a plan in meeting, then later says no such approval existed. After several such reversals, the team begins to doubt its own record.
