Concern Trolling

Description

Concern Trolling borrows the language of care to smuggle in delay and doubt. It is counsel that weakens what it pretends to protect.

Why This Works

It works because concern sounds virtuous. Harm can be delivered in a gentle tone, and many mistake tone for intent.

Example 1

“I support your goal, but perhaps wait another year.” Repeatedly, urgency is postponed until momentum dies.

Example 2

Each hard fact is met with, “I just worry this might hurt your image,” and substance is displaced by anxiety.
