Whataboutism

Description

Whataboutism is the turning of the head away from duty. A clear charge is met not with answer, but with another grievance.

Why This Works

It works because people are easily drawn into tribal bookkeeping: who sinned first, who sinned more. In this noise, present responsibility escapes.

Example 1

“You altered the report.” Reply: “And what about your missed deadlines?” The first matter remains untouched.

Example 2

A harmful policy is questioned; defenders answer only by listing opponents’ past faults.
