Argumentum ad Verecundiam

Description

Argumentum ad Verecundiam is surrendering judgment to rank: the claim is not examined, only the speaker is crowned.

Why This Works

It works because authority offers relief from uncertainty. The weary mind prefers borrowed certainty to disciplined inquiry.

Example 1

“A famous investor endorsed this policy, therefore it is sound.” The name is inspected; the evidence is excused.

Example 2

“I am senior, so my conclusion stands.” Office is offered as proof, and proof itself is dismissed as unnecessary.
