IIICognitive Bias

Availability Heuristic

Your bias is Availability Heuristic. Judging frequency by how easily examples come to mind.

Why This Bias Happens

Memory favors vivid, recent, and emotional events. The mind then mistakes ease of recall for evidence of frequency.

Example 1

Seneca often asks us to prepare for hardship by deliberate reflection, not by panic at striking stories. His method resists the rule of vivid fear.

Example 2

In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman explains that dramatic events dominate perception of risk, even when statistics point elsewhere.
