IVCognitive Bias
Belief Bias
Your bias is Belief. Accepting arguments with agreeable conclusions, despite weak logic.
Why This Bias Happens
We want coherence between what we believe and what we accept. So when a conclusion pleases us, we relax standards for the argument that carries it.
Example 1
Epictetus teaches that we suffer more from judgments than events. Belief bias is that judgment in action: the pleasant conclusion seduces reason.
Example 2
Reasoning studies show people rate syllogisms as more valid when conclusions match prior beliefs, regardless of formal logic.
