VCognitive Bias
Dunning-Kruger Effect
Your bias is Dunning-Kruger Effect. People with low expertise may overestimate their competence.
Why This Bias Happens
The same skills needed to perform well are often needed to evaluate performance. When those skills are weak, self-measurement is weak too.
Example 1
Epictetus praises intellectual humility: first know what you do not know. That stance directly resists overconfidence without competence.
Example 2
Dunning and Kruger found low-performing participants overestimated their ability, while stronger performers often estimated more cautiously.
