WLogical Fallacy
Red Herring
Description
Red Herring is deliberate misdirection: an irrelevant issue is thrown into view so the central question is abandoned.
Why This Works
It works because attention follows novelty and conflict. Once diverted, discussion rarely returns to first principles on its own.
Example 1
Question: “Were figures manipulated?” Reply: “Why are you silent about your colleague’s behavior?”
Example 2
During audit review, the speaker pivots to unrelated market gossip until time expires.
