Fearmongering

Description

Fearmongering enlarges danger to shrink deliberation. It says: decide now, tremble now, obey now.

Why This Works

It works because fear shortens time horizons. Under imagined catastrophe, people accept weak arguments that promise immediate safety.

Example 1

“Approve this today or disaster is certain by next month.” Probability is never discussed.

Example 2

Rare events are presented as daily fate, and sweeping control is sold as simple prudence.
